Comment on vaccine announcement

Monday, 9 November, 2020

Shadow Health Secretary Donald Cameron has welcomed the announcement by Pfizer and BioNTech that they plan to apply for emergency approval to use their coronavirus vaccine by the end of the month.

It is understood that the UK Government has bought 30m doses – enough for 15 million people because two doses are required.

Mr Cameron said: “This announcement holds out real hope that a milestone has been reached in developing an effective vaccine.  And hope is something that our communities, which have endured months of restrictions, badly need.  An effective vaccine is an absolute precondition for getting this pandemic behind us, and leading a normal life again, so this really is potentially very good news indeed.”
